The first two chairs to go with the dining table are complete. The finish on the chairs matches nicely with the table – both were done the same way: First the raw wood was exposed to ammonia fumes which darkens it, and then a light coat of garnet shellac provides just a hint of redness to the chairs. The final coats of oil and urethane complete the finishing process. This project also gave me my first experience trying to do some upholstery. That part of the project could use some improvement. I am not sure how well my upholstery handiwork will hold up, but the seats are removable, and can be redone easily. Here are the finished chairs with the recently completed table.
